With a leadership transition underway at the Department of Education (DepEd), the national education reform coalition E-Net Philippines calls for a smooth transition that puts ahead in its agenda, the welfare of the whole education sector and prioritizes progressive education policies and their full implementation.
Carla Santos, President of E-Net Philippines, expressed the organization’s hopes for a smooth and uninterrupted leadership transition at the Department of Education (DepEd).

“E-Net Philippines has been working with various units of DepEd for the proper implementation of recently passed laws and progressive policies and programs that are vital for an inclusive, equitable, quality education and support the marginalized, excluded, and vulnerable sectors (MEVS) in education, such as the Alternative Learning System which provides education opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults who missed out on basic education, inclusive education for learners with disabilities, enhancing teacher education, protecting teachers’ rights and welfare, ensuring child protection and improving the School-based Feeding Program, among others. As we call for a progressive leadership at DepEd, we urge the national government to prioritize the implementation of these laws, policies, and programs.”, Santos added.

Prof. Flora Arellano, E-Net OIC-National Coordinator also stressed that “It is a necessity that the new DepEd Secretary must be a strong advocate of child protection and child rights policy, a champion of teachers’ rights and welfare, exercises transparency and accountability, and open and willing to collaborate with civil society organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders in advancing a genuinely progressive education agenda.”

E-Net Philippines further emphasized that the new DepEd leadership must continue to work on institutionalizing education reforms that prioritize inclusivity and equity, taking into account the various perspectives of human rights, gender equality, disability and social inclusion. ######
