Literacy Coordinating Council workshop in enhancing the National Literacy Information System (NLIS)

On September 5 to 8, 2023, the Literacy Coordinating Council held a workshop at the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Region XII, bringing together council members and key stakeholders to enhance the National Literacy Information System (NLIS). The NLIS collects, stores, and analyzes data related to literacy to advance educational efforts nationwide.
 
E-Net Philippines, which is the NGO representative to the LCC recommended to update the website design to a more modern and user-friendly website design, making it easier for everyone to access and navigate. During the workshop, E-Net further helped identify data that needs updating and has worked to make the website more inclusive, ensuring that it caters to the diverse needs of learners and literacy program managers.
 
E-Net Philippines which is the NGO representative to the LCC contributed to enhancing the NLIS by putting forward the following key recommendations:
 
Website Design: a more modern and user-friendly website design, making it easier for everyone to access and navigate.
 
Website Content: E-Net helped in identifying data that needs updating, ensuring that the information available is accurate and up-to-date.
Inclusiveness: E-Net has worked to make the website more inclusive, ensuring that it caters to the diverse needs of learners and literacy program managers.
 
Mr. Enrico R. Mendoza, head of LCC Secretariat, emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in advancing literacy development in the Philippines. Accurate information is the key to formulating effective policies and strategies that meet the evolving needs of our learners.
 
The success of this workshop is a testament to the LCC’s commitment to modernize its data infrastructure, aligning itself with best practices in data management. By enhancing the National Literacy Information System, we are better equipped to monitor and evaluate literacy programs, allocate resources effectively, and drive positive change in the education landscape of the Philippines.
