E-Net Philippines joins Human Rights and People Empowerment Center (HRPEC)’s “MiyerKULET! Kulay at Malay”
E-Net Philippines joins Human Rights and People Empowerment Center (HRPEC)’s “MiyerKULET! Kulay at Malay”, a human rights festival dedicated to the harmonious coexistence of different cultures, languages, and communities. Kulay at Malay is a two-month regular cultural event that has been a safe space to raise political consciousness through arts and open conversations.
To commemorate the September 21 Martial Law Declaration, HRPEC, in partnership with E-Net Philippines screened a film titled, “Dekada ’70”. This movie is based on a well-known Filipino novel from 1983 written by Lualhati Bautista, and focuses on human rights violations during that dark period in our nation’s history.
Meanwhile, on September 6, 2023, the Department of Education Bureau of Curriculum Development issued a directive to change the term “Diktadurang Marcos” to “Diktadura” in the 2023 MATATAG Grade 6 Araling Panlipunan Curriculum.
E-Net Philippines believes that it is essential that the Araling Panlipunan subject provides accurate and objective information for a deep understanding of the nation’s past and present.
Just as there was a significant effort to include the study of Martial Law in the curriculum, acknowledging the “Marcos Dictatorship” provides students with a precise and historically accurate framework. This awareness cultivates a more profound comprehension of Philippine history, the safeguarding of democracy, promotion of responsible citizenship, and empowers students to make informed judgments and participate meaningfully in the democratic process. Accurate historical education is key to achieving this goal.
